(Brooke) Elaine P. Callahan
Brighton – Age 85, passed away Monday, April 1, 2019 at Strong Memorial Hospital with a few very close friends and family members at her side. Brooke was born September 15, 1933 in the Bronx, daughter of Elizabeth & Christian Petersen. She is survived by her longtime partner Alan Shwachman, cousin Guy Martin (Ann Dozier), niece Becky Harrington (Mike), nephews, Tim Martin (Mary Kelly), Brian Martin, as well as two life long friends, Mary Thomas (Beecher) and Margaret Theodosakis (Nick) and many Rochester friends including classmates from the Keuka College graduating class of 1955.
Brooke had been an art gallery owner, an art director at Bausch & Lomb – Milton Roy, a senior partner of The Art Department, an art and antiques enthusiast and a volunteer for many years at the Wares & Wearable’s recycle shop of the former Grace United Methodist Church and had also led Al-Anon meetings in Brooklyn, NY for five years before moving to Rochester in 1984. She had also been a longtime member of the PennYan Grange and had participated as the Lecturer, entertaining and informing the members with whitty and thought-provoking talks.
She loved her family and many friends as well as her dogs each in turn. Brooke treasured the flea market experience and the hunting for treasure at local auctions.
Friends may call Saturday, May 18th at 11AM at St. Mark's & St. John’s Episcopal Church, 1245 Culver Road, Rochester, NY where a memorial service will be held. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to any charity of your choice.
