Obituary of Susan Elaine Heeks

Susan E. Heeks of Bergen, NY | 1954-2020 | Obituary July 26, 1954 – June 26, 2020 Susan Elaine Heeks, of Bergen, NY, was born July 26, 1954 to David and Marion Trapp in Rochester, NY. She was welcomed home to Jesus on June 26, 2020. Susan grew up in Churchville, NY with her three brothers, two sisters, and loving mom and dad. Growing up, she loved church events, camping, swimming, and skiing. She also loved missions and served with Teen Missions building an airstrip in the Amazon Basin of Brazil. At the age of eighteen, Susan met the love of her life, Jim, at Amiel’s Restaurant. After a four-year courtship, they were married at Pearce Memorial Church on February 12, 1977. Susan graduated from Houghton College and went on to Nursing School to become an LPN. Susan’s career as a nurse in Mother-Baby and Geriatrics exemplified her commitment to love, comfort, and caring. Jim and Susan together owned several food service venues and managed an estate sale business for many years. They enjoyed antiquing and restoring their 1835 farmhouse in Bergen, NY. Susan’s relationship with our Heavenly Father was evident to all in her life. II Timothy 4: 6-8 “For I am now ready to be offered, and the time of my departure is at hand. I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth, there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.” Susan lived for many years with a debilitating nerve disease. While she suffered daily with a ‘thorn in her side’, you would never know it. She represented Christ in the way she served others. Her gentle and cheerful spirit was her witness. She was a fierce comforter, and her life was marked by kindness. Her girls grew up witnessing and learning “true, kind, and necessary” are the criteria for life. She poured biblical truths into the young minds of her children and grandchildren- instilling faith to the generations. She is survived by her husband Jim; children, Kristyn (Adam) Samere, Jennifer (Robert) Verdugo, and Katherine (Kory) Booth; siblings David Trapp, Daniel (Lois) Trapp, Jimmy (Tammy) Trapp, and Karen (Bob) Jaus; grandchildren, Hannah, Joseph, William and Andrew Samere, Gracie Groome, and Aiden, Avery and Thomas Booth. She is preceded in death by her father, David Trapp; sister, Jane Carter; and sister-in-law, Joyce Trapp. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held on Saturday, September 12th at Pearce Memorial Church (4322 Buffalo Road North Chili, NY) at 1pm. A private graveside service will be conducted at 11am on Monday, July 6 at North Chili Rural Cemetery for the immediate family and siblings. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Free Methodist World Missions, 770 N High School Rd Indianapolis, IN 46214-3756 supporting Chris & Yuko Wilkins, (missionaries serving in Japan).
